Report: Gazprom can stop supplies to Moldova in October

CHISINAU, Jun 14 (PRIME) -- The current contract between Russian gas giant Gazprom and Moldova stipulates the amount of shipments only until October, which is why there are risks that Gazprom will stop the supplies or cut the volume, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu told channel TV8 on Monday.

"We have a five-year contract, but we have agreed on the volume until October, while we need to start discussing the volumes for the next 12 months in August–September, when we understand Gazprom’s intentions for Moldovagaz. They might say that there is no volume or not enough volume," Spinu said.

Spinu separately said that the Moldovan authorities hope that the contract with Gazprom will remain in force in the coming autumn and winter, because this might cause a price decrease.

"We want to keep the contract with Gazprom for the autumn and winter with the current formulas, this is the most optimistic scenario. If we manage to keep it, the gas price will become lower in winter," Spinu said.
